Have you ever been frustrated at the lack of good and wholesome reading material out there, especially in the magazine section? I enjoy reading magazines, but find myself constantly discouraged at the amount of trash that is included in them. Even the magazines we may not necessarily think of as “bad” still have advertisements with scantily clad women and articles that glorify self-serving behavior. The ladies at Virtuous Magazine are making an effort to solve this problem.
Virtuous Magazine is an excellent publication. It fills a void that had seemingly been neglected in the Christian magazine world. While most of the other magazines for Christian women focused solely on devotional and Bible study articles, Virtuous Magazine is meant to be a replacement for the everyday women’s magazine. It still contains the Biblically based articles, but also has modest fashion tips, recipes and all of the things women love to read in their favorite magazine. Each issue contains an article featuring a different woman, but instead of featuring the newest up-and-coming celebrity, they feature women who are making a difference in the kingdom of God. The articles and images showcased in Virtuous Magazine are a refreshing change from the worldly attitude we see reflected in other magazines.
The current issue contains articles on everything from how to reuse your leftovers from holiday meals to homeschooling. Teenage author, Memory Reese wrote an excellent article about insecurity and how to conquer it in a godly way. Vanessa Owens addresses how to make guests feel at home in your home. Editor, Brittany Davis has several articles in this issue; my personal favorite is “Fashion Police” in which she discusses different ways to address immodesty issues with your Christian sisters.
Virtuous Magazine is published bi-monthly and is available in print and digital format. It is geared toward young women ages 16 and up. They are celebrating their 2 year anniversary this month and they are starting some exciting new things! Among these is a Youtube channel,Vtv (youtube.com/virtuousmagazine). Original content on modest fashions, true beauty and living a godly life will be featured. The ladies at Virtuous magazine are also starting a study through Proverbs in which they encourage women to read a chapter of Proverbs each day and share their thoughts on their Facebook page. If you have any young ladies on your gift list, a subscription would make an excellent present that keeps on giving all year long. How wonderful would it be to see our teenage girls sharing something like this with their friends instead of the worldly magazines on the supermarket shelf!
