Bible Marking: The Reality of Hell

April 13, 2016 by Kathy Pollard Leave a Comment

BIBLE MARKING (9)

According to the Pew Research Center’s 2014 Religious Landscape Study, 72% of Americans believe in heaven while only 58% believe in hell. Some have a hard time believing that a loving God would send anyone to a place of eternal torment. But the same Source that tells us about God’s love tells us about hell. The fact that God warns us about the danger of dying lost is evidence of His love for us. And when we love others, we will also warn them about hell.

In the front of your Bible, write:

The Reality of Hell- Matt. 5:22

But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good for nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.

Circle all three occurrences of the word “guilty” and underline “fiery hell.” At the end of the verse, write 10:28.

Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Underline “fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” At the end of the verse, write 13:40-42.

So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in the place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Jesus is explaining the parable He shared earlier (beginning at verse 24). Underline “burned with fire.” Circle “stumbling blocks” and “those who commit lawlessness.” Underline “furnace of fire” and “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Draw a square around “place” and in the margin write “Hell is a located place.” At the end of the verse, write v. 49,50.

So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous, and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Circle “wicked” and underline “furnace of fire” and “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Draw a square around “place.” At the end of the verse, write 18:8,9.

If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut if off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be cast into eternal fire. If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be cast into the fiery hell.

Circle both occurrences of the word “stumble.” Underline “cast into eternal fire” and “cast into the fiery hell.” At the end of the verse, write 23:33.

You serpents, you brood of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell?

Circle “serpents” and “vipers” and underline “sentence of hell.” Jesus had said “Woe to you” eight times and given eight reasons why (verses 13, 14, 15, 16, 23, 25, 27, and 29, if you’d like to underline the “woes”). At the end of verse 33, write 25:41-46.

Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels…These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

Circle “accursed ones” and underline “eternal fire” and “eternal punishment.” Draw a square around “prepared” and in the margin write “Hell is a prepared place.” At the end of the verse, write Luke 16:19-31.

For the sake of space, this passage cannot be written out here.

In verse 23, underline “in Hades” and “torment.” In verse 24, underline “agony in this flame.” In verse 25, underline “agony.” In verse 28, circle “five brothers” and “warn them” and underline “place of torment.” At the end of the passage, write 2 Thess. 1:6-9.

For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.

Circle “those who afflict you,” “those who do not know God,” and “those who do not obey the gospel.” Underline “affliction,” “retribution,” and “eternal destruction.” Draw a square around “pay the penalty” and write “Hell is a penalty” in the margin. At the end of the passage, write Heb. 10:26-31.

For the sake of space, this passage cannot be written out here.

Circle “sinning willfully” in verse 26, “adversaries” in verse 27, and “who has trampled underfoot the Son of God” and “has insulted the Spirit of grace” in verse 29. Underline “fury of a fire” in verse 27 and “severer punishment” in verse 29. At the end of the passage, write Rev. 20:14,15.

Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Underline all three occurrences of “lake of fire.” At the end of the verse, write 21:8.

But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

Circle each of the guilty parties: “cowardly,” “unbelieving,” “abominable,” “murderers,” “immoral,” “sorcerers,” “idolaters,” and “all liars.” Underline “lake that burns with fire and brimstone.”

Welcome to Come Fill Your Cup!

CFYC About Image Welcome! We are so glad you stopped by. Come Fill Your Cup is a group of Christian ladies dedicated to equipping women for study and service. We know you are busy and that life’s hectic pace pulls you in so many directions, but you can’t truly be the woman God desires unless you take time to fill your own cup…not with spa days (though we love a good spa!) or the latest novel…but with God’s Holy Word. We want to help you with that! Our goal is to reach you in the midst of your busy day and give you encouragement, education, and fellowship as you strive to live the life God has laid before you. Our prayer is that we can help fill your cup so that you, in turn, can overflow to all those around you. So, as we like to say…come fill your cup, and let it overflow!
