Perk Up Your Kids Bible Class with “Bones”!

February 20, 2020 by Gwen Schnell Leave a Comment

Heb 11:22
By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the exodus of the sons of Israel, and gave orders concerning his bones.

Greetings! To my sister Bible class teachers,

This post has been developing in my mind for some time and I believe this month it is actually going to make out to you!

Bones.

They are interesting things!

At birth our body has around 270 bones that decrease to around 206 bones as we grow into adulthood.

God has made our bodies and bones so very intricate.

Psalm 139:14 refers to us being fearfully and wonderfully made.

Ahhh, yes we are! Our God created us so very amazingly unique!

Without our bones it seems we would just be a pile of mush.

I love the visual aids about our human bodies from the Resource Room at the Bible class workshop.

Exrays are a great way to show your students what human bones look like. And there are lots of pictures on line or in books that show a great likeness to how our bones are made and what our skeleton looks like as well.

I actally bought a medium sized plastic skeleton a couple years ago at Walgreens. Just the right size for our class. It’s hung by a string to the hook on top of it’s skull. I taped the string to a cardboard and stapled the cardboard to the wall. Ha! He is missing a phalange! I have it, just need to get my hot glue gun         out. Not at all like our bones!

I am a person who finds peace working in my flower beds, and have always thought my 4 o’clock stems resembled jointed bones! What do you think?

One year I was not so timely about cleaning out this flower bed and after the frost hit the 4 o’clocks lay on the ground until close to spring. Needless to say it was time to get busy! But what a little blessing I found! Among the wilted dried 4 o’clock stems were Bible class visual aids!

“Bones” if you will.

Such fun!  I cleanned them off, laid them to dry in the sun. Bagged them up and that’s where they are today. You never know just what unexpected visual aid you may find if you take a minute to look at what is in front of you.

There are several mentions of different Bible people and bones!

Some that come to mind are:

Adam and Eve, bone of my bones… – Genesis 2:23; Moses taking Joseph’s bones with the Israelites upon leaving Egypt – Exodus 13:19; David took the bones of Saul and Jonathan and buried them in the country of Benjamin – 2 Samuel 21:12-14; when the dogs ate Jezebel only her skull, feet, and palms of her hands were found – 2 Kings 9:33-37; When a man was being buried was thrown in beside Elisha’s bones and was revived – 2 Kings 13:21; the valley of dry bones with Ezekial – Ezekial 37; Jesus’ comparison in the 8 woes. To  the Scribes and Pharasees He said, they were like white washed tombs that were beautiful on the outside but filled with dead man’s bones on the inside; one last account I would like to mention is when Jesus was on the cross. It was prophesied that not one of His bones would be broken – Psalm 34:20 and fullfilled in John 19:33-36.

Have fun and “bone up” on your Bible lesson!

My prayers and encouragement go with you!

Welcome to Come Fill Your Cup!

CFYC About Image Welcome! We are so glad you stopped by. Come Fill Your Cup is a group of Christian ladies dedicated to equipping women for study and service. We know you are busy and that life’s hectic pace pulls you in so many directions, but you can’t truly be the woman God desires unless you take time to fill your own cup…not with spa days (though we love a good spa!) or the latest novel…but with God’s Holy Word. We want to help you with that! Our goal is to reach you in the midst of your busy day and give you encouragement, education, and fellowship as you strive to live the life God has laid before you. Our prayer is that we can help fill your cup so that you, in turn, can overflow to all those around you. So, as we like to say…come fill your cup, and let it overflow!
