Have you ever wanted to start memorizing Bible passages but didn’t know where to start? Here are 5 of my favorite ways to write God’s word on my heart. (Deuteronomy 11:18, Psalm 119:11, Psalm 40:8)
1. Read It, Say It, And Write It Everyday
This is a great scripture memory technique if you aren’t in a rush to memorize a passage. If I do this once or twice each day, it usually takes about a week or two until I get each verse down.
2. Post The Verse In A Visible Location
Print the verse and put it somewhere you see every day. Your mirror. Your car. Your computer. Your kitchen cabinet….or even all of the above! Each time this verse comes into view read it out loud. You’ll have the verse committed to memory in no time at all.
3. Download an App
Apps such as Scripture Typer have made it easier than ever to memorize scripture. Some even track your progress and remind you when you haven’t looked at a particular verse in a while.
4. Utilize Your Bible Software
Many of the popular Bible study software programs out there have scripture memory tools built in. Are any of you Logos Bible Software gals? Logos now has my personal favorite scripture memorization tool. Just go to your documents and create a passage list then click “Memorize.” Logos will step you through and drop words out each time until you are typing the entire passage from memory.
5. Write it on Your Hand
This one may seem silly, but if you are memorizing a single verse at a time it is a wonderful method. You can even abbreviate as long as you can still read and understand what you’ve written. You look at your hands more than you realize in a given day. Be sure to make it a point to actually read the verse when your eyes pass over it and from time to time speak it out loud.
These are just a few of my favorite methods, I would love to hear from you! How do you memorize scripture?
