Stop With the #singlelife

April 10, 2017 by Marissa Teske Leave a Comment

Too many young girls in our world today are obsessed with relationship status. Whether it’s their own relationship status or that of their best friend, neighbor, or enemy, they’re obsessed. “Who is dating whom?”, “Didn’t they break up?”, “will she ever find somebody?”, “I’m never going to find someone!”  We all know someone who has said these things, we may have even said these things ourselves. Personally, I fall into the “single” group. In fact, I convinced myself that I’m happy being single and that I don’t need any man to complete me. Thankfully, I’ve learned a few things since then.

First, I want to speak to my fellow “singles”: Newsflash—we are not single. Never have been, never will be. Do we have boyfriends? Well, no. Are we in a relationship? Absolutely!

Before I even existed on this earth, someone loved me. As an innocent child, someone wanted the best for me. Even when I let Him down, denied Him, and neglected Him, He continued to watch for me and wait for me to come back to Him. He even died for me:

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”-Romans 5:8

Personally, I began my side of my relationship with God eight years ago, at Bible camp when I was eleven. Since then, I have disappointed Him in countless ways. Yet every time I left my relationship with God, I fell into a relationship with another. I have never truly been independent or alone because every person alive is currently in one of the following relationships: with God or with Satan. Which relationship are you in?

Second, I want to speak to my “committed” friend: I understand that your significant other is the BEST thing since sliced bread. I’m sure he’s a great person, super handsome, and I bet he treats his mom well, too! However, I hope and pray he is not your greatest love in this life because that honor belongs to God, who gave you life in the first place. Loving God, like loving our significant other, is hard work. But while working on our earthly relationships is important, our heavenly relationship should take priority every time. God is not content to be your sloppy seconds. Luke 14:26 says: “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.”  God wants to be first in your life. When we wake up in the morning, who do we contact first? Our boyfriends or our God?

Singles, let’s stop with the #singlelife and instead use #blessedlife because we have already been blessed more than we will ever understand. Committeds, don’t forget: any relationship on this earth pales in comparison to the relationship a faithful Christian has with God. Find yourself a man who not only understands this but loves God more than he’ll ever love you!

Welcome to Come Fill Your Cup!

CFYC About Image Welcome! We are so glad you stopped by. Come Fill Your Cup is a group of Christian ladies dedicated to equipping women for study and service. We know you are busy and that life’s hectic pace pulls you in so many directions, but you can’t truly be the woman God desires unless you take time to fill your own cup…not with spa days (though we love a good spa!) or the latest novel…but with God’s Holy Word. We want to help you with that! Our goal is to reach you in the midst of your busy day and give you encouragement, education, and fellowship as you strive to live the life God has laid before you. Our prayer is that we can help fill your cup so that you, in turn, can overflow to all those around you. So, as we like to say…come fill your cup, and let it overflow!
