We sing “hold to God’s unchanging hand.”  We pray “put Your healing hand on him.”  We say, “You can see God’s hand in that.”  I love the fact that the Bible mentions the hand of God.  Hands represent so much!  We hold someone’s hand to express comfort or unity or togetherness.  We lend a hand to one in need.  We reach for a hand in fear or moments of crisis.  We use our hands to do good works.  We see these same representations of our own great God!  For your own personal edification, you could create two lists as you go through this study (one list for words describing God’s hand and another list for what He does for you with His hand).  When you need a hand, don’t forget to reach for the One who reaches for you. 

In the front of your Bible, write: The Hand of God- 1 Chron. 29:12

Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and in Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone.

Circle both occurrences of “Your hand.”  Underline “power and might” and “to make great and to strengthen everyone.”  At the end of the verse, write Ezra 8:22.

For I was ashamed to request from the king troops and horsemen to protect us from the enemy on the way, because we had said to the king, “The hand of our God is favorably disposed to all those who seek Him, but His power and His anger are against all those who forsake Him.”

Circle “hand of our God.”  Underline “favorable disposed to all those who seek Him.”  At the end of the verse, write Psa. 18:35.

“You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, and Your right hand upholds me; and Your gentleness makes me great.”

Circle “Your right hand.”  Underline “upholds me.”  In the margin next to “upholds,” write “support; strengthen.”  At the end of the verse, write 63:8.

My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.

Circle “Your right hand” and underline “upholds me.”  At the end of the verse, write 98:1.

O sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done wonderful things, His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him.

Circle “His right hand” and underline “gained the victory.”  Be sure to read verses two and three to understand what that means for the righteous!  At the end of the verse, write 138:7-8.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me.  The Lord will accomplish what concerns me; Your lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands. 

Circle “Your hand,” “Your right hand,” and “Your hands.”  Underline “against the wrath of my enemies” and “will save me.”  God’s hands are capable and He will take care of everything concerning me!  At the end of the verse, write 139:10.

Even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will lay hold of me.

Circle “Your hand” and “Your right hand.”  Underline “lead me” and “lay hold of me.”  Squiggly underline “even there.”  In verse nine, squiggly underline “the remotest part of the sea” and draw a line connecting that phrase to “even there” in verse 10.  Read verses 11 and 12.  No matter how lost we feel or how dark it seems, God will still be there to lead us.  At the end of the verse, write Ecc. 2:24-25.

There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself that his labor is good.  This also I have seen that it is from the hand of God.  For who can eat and who can have enjoyment without Him?

Circle “hand of God.”  Underline “eat and drink,” “his labor is good,” “eat,” and “enjoyment.”  At the end of the verse, write Isa. 41:10,13.

Do not fear, for I am with you;  Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand…For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, “Do not fear, I will help you.”

Circle “My righteous right hand” and underline “uphold you” and “upholds your right hand.”  This is an interesting visual.  Both right hands are involved.  That means they are not side by side but facing each other.  It’s almost as if God is saying, “Do not look at all the mess around you, look at Me.”  At the end of the verse, write 48:13.

Surely My hand founded the earth, and My right hand spread out the heavens.

Circle “My hand” and “My right hand.”  How powerful is it?  Underline “founded the earth” and “spread out the heavens.”  The same hand that created it all wants to help me!  At the end of the verse, write 49:14-16.

But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me, and the Lord has forgotten me.”  Can a woman forget her nursing child and have no compassion on the son of her womb?  Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.  Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me.

Circle “palms of My hands” and underline “I have inscribed you.”  This is a beautiful verse.  Have you ever written a reminder on your hand to be sure that you wouldn’t forget it?  God tells His people that He will not forget them because He wrote them on His hands.  He knew those hands would later be nail-scarred.  Twice marked up on our behalf.  At the end of the verse, write John 10:27-29.

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.  My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.

Circle “My hand” and “the Father’s hand.”  Underline “no one will snatch them out of” and “no one is able to snatch them out of.”  Jesus comforts with this double security.  His sheep are in His hand and the Father’s hand!
