Right now, we are living in a time of uncertainty and fear; each of our lives has changed overnight in many different ways. One thing that is certain though, we all suddenly have more time on our hands today than we did a few weeks ago. There are not many blessings wrapped up in this global pandemic, but this mass redemption of time is one of them. We have been a people who have neglected the important things for so long because we were weary with so much piled on our plates.
My challenge for each of you is to take these next few weeks that you are home and make spiritual growth a priority for yourself. If each of us focused on strengthening our faith and immersing ourselves in God’s word in the coming weeks, we might watch the economy weaken, but the church would thrive. Below are some of my absolute favorite resources to help you grow.
Resources From Our Page:
Divine Percolations: Looking for a way to build mental fortitude? This series is great! Cheri Deaver compiles a list of verses to meditate on based on certain topics. This is an excellent way to let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.
Book by Book: Do you want to start from square one, gaining a basic understanding of each book of the Bible and how it fits into the larger scheme of God’s plan? This series is for you! Kathryn Baker walks you through one book of the Bible in each article, summarizing the main concepts, and then issues a challenge to read through the book with a certain theme in mind.
Finer Grounds: Finer Grounds is our in-depth Bible study series. We run these 13-week studies twice a year on our website. Our next study through Romans starts on Friday, April 3, but in the meantime, you can view the previous series on our printables page. Some of our past studies are also available in book form from Kaio Publications or find them on Amazon.
Bible Marking: Looking for a great way to prepare for personal evangelism or simply strengthen your knowledge on particular topics? Kathy Pollard’s Bible Marking series is an excellent resource for you! She takes various topics and walks you through creating a chain reference right in your Bible.
Introduction to Exegesis and Introduction to Hermeneutics: Want to learn the basics of how to study the Bible. These two series are a great start! Aimee Leemus and Lacy Crowel walk you through how to break down a text and figure out the meaning.
Virtual Retreat: Are you upset about missing all of the ladies days and events that the spring held? Our Virtual Retreat is for you. The first Saturday in May, we always offer a Virtual Ladies Day. Watch the lessons and participate live with us, or watch at your own pace throughout the month. This year we will be doing a study of 2 Peter and Jude.
Other Resources:
Global Preacher Training: This is one of my personal favorite websites. Created by the Broadway Church of Christ in Peducah, KY, Global Preacher Training is definitely not just for preachers as the title suggests. There are so many excellent in depth textual and topical video courses available for free. From Greek to Exegesis to the study of a particular text, Global Preacher Training is full of fantastic videos by excellent teachers.
Writing the Word in 2020: Another fantastic resource is by our lovely and talented Carla Moore who has created a Scripture writing plan for the year. Spend time dwelling on these verses and writing them on your heart. It is not too late to jump in!
World Video Bible School: WVBS offers online Bible School for free! Walk through classes at your own pace while still being accountable to turn in work. You can also simply audit the classes.
World Bible School: WBS is a not just an excellent evangelistic tool, it is a great place to brush up on some of your basic Bible knowledge.
These are just a few of the many resources available to help you grow during this time of turmoil. My prayer for all of us is that we can spend this time strengthening ourselves and families so the church emerges on the other side of this tragedy stronger than ever. I love you all and am praying for you!
