1 Samuel 13:14
(NASB95)
…The LORD has sought out for Himself a man after His own heart…
Greetings!
To my sister Bible class teachers,
Yes, it’s been a while, but I have not forgotten you and my plan is to get back on track sharing with you from time to time.
I pray all is well and that you have found blessings as you put forth your tireless time and effort planting the word in all those young hearts.
Last week as I prepared my Bible lesson about Saul’s pursuits of David and how David spared Saul’s life, 1 Samuel 23;24;26, I ended up catching a cold and thankfully a wonderful sister in Christ, whom I watched grow from our church youth group into a faithful Christian woman, who is a busy wife, mother, and one who works in the secular world as well, stepped up, took my notes, power point and fact posters and taught our 3rd-6th graders in my place! What a blessing she was! Got to LOVE our subs!!
I had some extra items that we used with the lesson besides the power point which were:
- A map for the students to chart during the lesson. (I got the map for the students take home and power point from Carta Bible Atlas in Logos Bible Program.)
- Names of people in the lesson for students to add to the magnet board as they were talked about in the lesson. This helped them not only hear the names but see them and could look back at the names during the lesson and helps them have a bit of movement during the lesson, and the teacher could even use them as a review.
- Fact posters about the Kings of the United Kingdom. (I used Saul and David for the lesson but wanted you to see the poster on Solomon as well. I actually need to update one of the scrolls on Solomon that is missing part of the phrase. Some ladies commented about the posters as using the images with the facts as a folder game.)
The original idea for these fact posters came from our sister and friend Kathy Petrillo!
(I have gotten GREAT ideas across the miles from many of our sisters in Christ for which I am super thankful!)
Since I didn’t have Kathy’s original poster I had to come up with my own.
As Kathy had done, I used golden crowns for the facts about Saul, red hearts for the facts about David, and scrolls for the facts about Solomon.
I went online and found exactly what I needed.
A crown, heart, and scroll.
I don’t look for just any image of these things.
I filter my search for an extra-large image size, so it won’t lose its resolution if I want to enlarge it or use it in power point.
We work so hard on our visual aids it would be a shame to end up with a blurry image.
And of course, we need to respect copyright.
- I formatted these images in Microsoft word and added text boxes for the facts I wanted to add about each King inside each image.
- I enlarged one gold crown for each King and added their name to it with a text box and took out the border and background color from the text box so the crown image would show around the bold name instead of the text box.
- After printing the images I had formatted onto white standard weight paper, I cut them out leaving a white boarder around all the smaller images so the contrast would help the image “pop” against the darker poster board.
- I chose 2 navy regular sized poster boards, laid each one it on its side long ways and then measured and marked the posters, using my yardstick and pencil, with a width of 13 1/2 inches for each of the 3 posters, then cut the size specified.
- I laid out the large crowns at the top of each poster then arranged all the smaller images on each corresponding poster.
- After having the images arranged, beginning at the bottom, glued each image permanently into place.
- Laminate if you so choose to do.
(Our laminator is on the blink so I will be taking my posters to be laminated at the Mardell’s store. They have laminators that they show you how to use and charge .50 per foot. Also, the reason I used standard weight paper for printing the images I glued onto the poster board instead of card stock is because, when I laminate the finished fact poster, the laminate film will go nicely over the standard weight paper without leaving any air pockets around the edges of the images that may occur had I used a thicker card stock for each item glued onto the poster.)
The names of the people from the lesson for the magnet board were also formatted in Microsoft Word.
If you have any questions, please ask!
Thanks for stopping by,
Gwen

Welcome! We are so glad you stopped by. Come Fill Your Cup is a group of Christian ladies dedicated to equipping women for study and service. We know you are busy and that life’s hectic pace pulls you in so many directions, but you can’t truly be the woman God desires unless you take time to fill your own cup…not with spa days (though we love a good spa!) or the latest novel…but with God’s Holy Word. We want to help you with that! Our goal is to reach you in the midst of your busy day and give you encouragement, education, and fellowship as you strive to live the life God has laid before you. Our prayer is that we can help fill your cup so that you, in turn, can overflow to all those around you. So, as we like to say…come fill your cup, and let it overflow!
