On the cross He died that day,
A low and beaten man
Reaching towards Heaven’s sky,
Blood dripping from His hand
Those who passed by hurled insults,
As all watched Him in pain
The King of Jews was written above,
Instead of Jesus’ name
“Come down from the cross!
Save yourself!” they said,
But Jesus knew what must be done,
As He humbly bowed His head
From six to nine the thunder rolled,
As darkness filled the land
And when the final hour reached,
No longer could He stand
His Father turned His head away,
To be shielded from the sight
As in just one, last loud breath,
Jesus died that night
