It has been said that a watchmaker makes watches, a candlemaker makes candles and a Christian prays. Prayer is one of the most important aspects of a Christian’s life. Here are a few commands on the subject of prayer. Ready to study? Get out your Bible and read each passage, taking notes on how you can implement these in your own prayer life.
- Do not pray to be seen and gain glory for yourself (Matthew 6:5,6).
- Do not repeat yourself meaninglessly (Matthew 6:7,8)
- Honor God (Matthew 6:9).
- Pray in faith (Mark 11:24).
- Forgive others (Mark 11:25).
- Do not lose heart (Luke 18:1).
- Pray with humility (Luke 18:10-14).
- Be mentally and spiritually engaged in your prayers (1 Corinthians 14:15).
- Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
- Men are to lead when praying in mixed company (1 Timothy 2:8).
- Check your motives (James 4:2).
- Pray when you’re suffering (James 5:13).
- Pray for these (these are just a few specifics):
- rulers and authorities (1 Timothy 2:1-4),
- those who persecute you (Matthew 5:44),
- God’s will (1 John 5:14, 15),
- your anxieties (Philippians 4:6),
- yourself (Jesus did it in John 17:1-5, Paul frequently requested prayers for himself such as in 1 Thessalonians 5:25),

Love this article! Great message. If you are running the references, you might want to make note that the #13 “those who persecute you” reference should be Mat 5:44. Was this a test to see who actually ran the references like we were told to do??? If so, very clever!
