Review: Legacy Family Camp

October 24, 2012 by Lacy Crowell 1 Comment

If I were to ask the question, “What is your #1 goal?” I am sure most all of us would give the same answer. “To get our family to Heaven.” This weekend our family was blessed with the opportunity to focus on just that. We spent several days as a family unit at the Legacy Family Camp at the Quartz Mountain Christian Camp in Lone Wolf, OK, and what a blessing it was!

Deuteronomy 6:4-7 was a recurring theme throughout the entire weekend. “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” We had four entire days to focus on nothing more than the spiritual well-being of our family, and many wonderful lessons and activities to help us do just that.

Each day began with breakfast followed by a time of worship. To hear 53 families singing together was a blessing in itself. If the singing is any indication, these families were very encouraged by the camp; I know we were. After singing several songs together, one of the well-selected, godly speakers gave his lesson.

We were blessed to hear several fantastic lessons by brothers Joe Wells and Kirk Brothers. There were also lessons by Steve Minor and Steve Schinnerer, who were directors of the camp. All of these lessons centered on our goal of getting our families to Heaven, and being more effective spiritual leaders in our homes as parents and grandparents. It was so unbelievably encouraging to see fathers, mothers, kids and grandparents all sitting side-by-side, learning how to better serve God Almighty as a family. I appreciated these brothers’ lessons so much because their lessons took us outside of the normal realm of “you need to raise faithful children!” and really provided some down-to-earth, practical advice on how to accomplish such an important task. If you are interested, the lessons will be available online soon at: http://legacyfamilycamp.wordpress.com/.

In addition to the formal study times, there was also time set aside specifically for Bible studies as a family unit. We were provided with brief, easy to follow material to use. It was amazing to look around the camp ground and see men leading their families in a time of study and worship, many of them for the first time ever. There were also godly women who, for whatever reason, were the head of their household. These amazing women were also embracing the responsibility of bringing up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4).

Every afternoon we were given “free time.” For many, it was the first time in a long time where there was an extended period of time set aside to just have fun together as a family. We were given the opportunity to mountain climb, shoot guns, participate in archery, learn how to whittle, horseback ride, do crafts, and many other things! We also enjoyed family entertainment in the evenings. This included things such as a hypnosis show and playing Family Feud. We had tons of fun laughing at (with) each other!

We had originally intended to take a family vacation to Branson, MO over fall break, but immediately canceled that trip when we learned about Legacy. I am so thankful that we did! There is no way we could have had more good, clean fun as a family than we were blessed with last weekend.

All in all I must say that Legacy Family Camp was an absolute blessing to all of those who were able to attend. Our family returned home rested, rejuvenated, and strengthened both emotionally and spiritually. I am so thankful to Steve Minor, Steve Schinnerer, and the staff of Quartz Mountain Christian Camp for an amazing weekend! If you didn’t make it this year, mark it on your calendar for next year! Believe me, it’s worth the trip!

Welcome to Come Fill Your Cup!

CFYC About Image Welcome! We are so glad you stopped by. Come Fill Your Cup is a group of Christian ladies dedicated to equipping women for study and service. We know you are busy and that life’s hectic pace pulls you in so many directions, but you can’t truly be the woman God desires unless you take time to fill your own cup…not with spa days (though we love a good spa!) or the latest novel…but with God’s Holy Word. We want to help you with that! Our goal is to reach you in the midst of your busy day and give you encouragement, education, and fellowship as you strive to live the life God has laid before you. Our prayer is that we can help fill your cup so that you, in turn, can overflow to all those around you. So, as we like to say…come fill your cup, and let it overflow!
