E.Y. Harburg said, “Words make you think. Music makes you feel. A song makes you feel a thought.” I love singing in worship! It never fails to uplift me. The a capella singing is simply beautiful, and the opportunity to praise God makes me feel closer to Him. Aren’t you thankful God has given us the gift of song?

This month’s Bible-marking topic will focus on songs we sing that come straight from the Scriptures. Some are old and some are new, so you may not be familiar with all of them. I never realized there were so many of them! If you find more songs from Scripture that aren’t included here, please share them with us in the comments section so we can all add them.

For the sake of space, I won’t be able to write out each of the verses, but I will include what to underline. In my Bible, I drew little musical notes in the margin next to each one. You can also include the title of the song, if you like. In the front of your Bible, write:

Songs from Scripture- Ex. 12:13

Underline “when I see the blood, I will pass over you.” Song title: When I See the Blood

At the end of the verse, write 33:22.

Underline “cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.” Song title: He Hideth My Soul

At the end of the verse, write Num. 6:24-27.

Underline all three verses. Song title: The Lord Bless You and Keep You

At the end of the verse, write Deut. 15:17.

Underline “take an awl and thrust it through his ear to the door.” For a beautiful description of what this means, read verses 12-16. Song title: Pierce My Ear

At the end of the verse, write Job 1:21.

Underline “Blessed be the name of the Lord.” Song title: Blessed Be the Name of the Lord

At the end of the verse, write Psa. 18:3.

Underline the entire verse. Song title: I Will Call Upon the Lord

At the end of the verse, write v. 46.

Underline the entire verse. The is the rest of I Will Call Upon the Lord.

At the end of the verse, write 19:14.

Underline the entire verse. Song title: Let the Words of My Mouth

At the end of the verse, write 23.

Underline each verse since each verse is included in the song. Song title: The Lord’s My Shepherd. Verse six is also another song. If you like, you can put musical notes next to it in the margin and add the song title: Surely Goodness and Mercy

At the end of the verse, write 119:105.

Underline the entire verse. Song title: Thy Word

At the end of the verse, write Lam. 3:22-24.

Underline all three verses. Song titles: The Steadfast Love of the Lord and Great is Thy Faithfulness

At the end of the verse, write Ezek. 34:26.

Underline “there shall be showers of blessing.” Song title: There Shall Be Showers of Blessing

At the end of the verse, write Matt. 6:33.

Underline the entire verse. Song title: Seek Ye First

At the end of the verse, write 16:26.

Underline “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” Song title: What Shall it Profit?

At the end of the verse, write Luke 1:46,47.

Underline “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.” Song title: Magnificat

At the end of the verse, write Gal. 2:20.

Underline the entire verse. Song title: Crucified with Christ

At the end of the verse, write 6:14.

Underline “God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Song title: When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

At the end of the verse, write 2 Tim. 1:12.

Underline “for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” Song title: I Know Whom I Have Believed

At the end of the verse, write 1 John 4:7,8.

Underline both verses. Song title: The Greatest Commands

At the end of the verse, write 5:4.

Underline “And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” Song title: Faith is the Victory

At the end of the verse, write Rev. 3:20.

Underline the entire verse. Song title: Behold, Behold (a children’s song)

At the end of the verse, write 4:8.

Underline “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty.” Song title: Holy, Holy, Holy

I think I found two more while in Bible class tonight… Psalm 61:1 (“Hear Me When I Call”, v. 2) and Psalm 61: 2 (“The Rock That is Higher Than I”)

One note: “I Will Call Upon the Lord” can also be found in 2 Sam 22:4 and 47, in case anyone wants to make the connection between the two…

Welcome to Come Fill Your Cup!

CFYC About Image Welcome! We are so glad you stopped by. Come Fill Your Cup is a group of Christian ladies dedicated to equipping women for study and service. We know you are busy and that life’s hectic pace pulls you in so many directions, but you can’t truly be the woman God desires unless you take time to fill your own cup…not with spa days (though we love a good spa!) or the latest novel…but with God’s Holy Word. We want to help you with that! Our goal is to reach you in the midst of your busy day and give you encouragement, education, and fellowship as you strive to live the life God has laid before you. Our prayer is that we can help fill your cup so that you, in turn, can overflow to all those around you. So, as we like to say…come fill your cup, and let it overflow!
