Ecclesiastes 9:10
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…
Greetings!
To My Sister Bible class teachers,
So many things on this earth our hands find to do. For Bible class teachers, one is most likely perking up their room which can take a lot of might from theirs and other’s hands!
For perking up my Bible class I cannot tell you how thankful I have been over the years for the blessing of paper!! I have seen the lack and abundance. Many things that have been fashioned for my Bible class has begun or ended with paper.
As I was preparing to teach a new quarter and was taking things down off the walls I noticed what bad shape the walls were in but did not have time to cover them with a fresh coat of paint. We had ample bulletin board paper so I chose red, white, and black and covered the wall. It looked bright and sharp and could even be used as a straight edge for pictures and such. We are allowed to use staples in our classroom walls but no tacks. If you will notice in the picture below, you can see the covered wall I was speaking of.
Another thing I love doing with paper is printing the theme of our studies in large lettering designed on the computer! If you will notice in the above picture, our theme is large, and in plain sight. I love for my students to see the theme and even those who pass by will be able to know where our studies are taking us. The picture below shows the theme we used in Vacation Bible School one year. The theme is very easily seen and once again drawn on and cut out of paper!
Something else easily made with paper is or poster board is the name(s) of the book(s) of the Bible your lessons come from. Again hand drawn, colored with crayon, laminated, and hung. No question what book of the Bible we were studying from!
It can be challenging to make displays in your room that have to do with your lessons, is calling your student’s minds to remembrance by using scripture with them, and are eye-catching. In years past I became intrigued by Origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. If you are doing a lesson about the creation, there are several patterns/videos you can find and put to use. Butterfly, grasshopper, bunny, bird, and even a snake! You can create them large or small. The small ones would be great if used in a mobile! I encourage you to try your hand at origami for your classroom and even for a take-home project. Give it a try and have some fun! Bulletin board paper will make some nice large pieces of origami for your room. I love things that stand out from the flat wall!
Bible lessons in which to use origami:
Variations of flowers, animals, birds, fish, creeping things, – Creation, Genesis 1, Noah, Genesis 7:1-5
Snake –Temptation and sin in the Garden, Genesis 3, Paul gets bitten by a viper, Acts 28:3
Grasshopper/locus – Plagues, Exodus 10: 12-20, John the Baptizer, Matthew 3:4
This month I will be sharing directions for the butterfly and this amazing snake.
