Greetings! To my sister Bible class teachers,
You may be wondering what is so hard about identifying visual aids for a children’s Bible lesson?
Sometimes just hearing the title of a Bible lesson can give us great clues as to how to introduce and reinforce our Bible lesson and what visual aids to use. But the title alone can never replace combing through the Bible text and identifying specific pictures, props, words to define, maps, sounds, costumes, etc. that could be utilized to catch your students’ attention and help them remember Bible truths.
I love reading through the text and gathering whatever other information/scriptures that will help me bring understanding to my Bible students!
I am passionate about Bible class visual aids!
I love how the text puts pictures in my mind, seeing Jesus sitting by the shore. Hearing what He heard! The lapping of the water on the seashore, the movement and voices of the crowd.
Rarely do I ever teach a Bible class without some sort of visual aid.
That is what Perk Up Your Kids’ Bible Class is all about! Finding visual aids that will perk up our Bible classes and help understanding and memory.
This month I am sharing an idea I had for a Future Teacher Training Camp to help the future teachers learn how to spot visual aids within the Bible text. It was actually part of their class assignment, to take a copy of their Bible lesson text that they were developing a lesson from and make a color code with given visual aid categories, then read and highlight specific areas on their copy of the text by underlining with the color that stands for specific visual aids from the color code. The young women campers thought identifying visual aids in this way was fun and it actually helped them pay close to what the text was saying!
I hope you give it a try and maybe you can pass this idea on to help others identify visual aids within their Bible lessons!
Love, Gwen
