Psalm 119:11
Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.
Greetings! To my sister Bible class teachers,
I hope this article finds you well, as you are endeavoring in the Word!
I’m not sure if you have ever found a struggle in keeping track of memory verses for an entire quarter of teaching, but in all my years of teaching, memory verses have been a struggle for me to keep track of as far as which verse someone missed, or which verses went with which Bible lesson.
In giving it much thought, hopefully this idea will be something that will help you as much as it has helped me!
A Bible verse memory poster to use for an entire quarter!
I like the idea of a poster because it portable, easily fits on and off of an easel,
and doesn’t take up a ton of space if you want to mount it onto a bulletin board or wall.
This memory verse poster is meant to work alongside an attendance chart.
This will enable you and your students to easily see which weeks they have been in attendance and any weeks they were absent so they can know which memory verses they need to catch up on.
Apologetics Press Curriculum has a 12-week attendance chart to print off for free.
Begin making the memory verse poster by gathering supplies.
- 1 regular size poster board. I chose a neon pink color poster from our teacher resource room.
- Liquid Glue I used white Elmers glue.
- Box tape
- X-Acto/pen knife/craft knife
- Scissors
- 12 Paper cups – regular coffee cup size cut in half.
- Scrap paper or card stock for 36, 1 x 4-inch tabs.
- Printed lesson number and lesson title to be glued onto each cup.
- Printed title for poster – I made a plain title – Memory Verses that also included the months of the quarter I taught, October – December. (You will notice my title was not very big for I needed every bit of space for the memory verses and cups.)
- Printed memory verses – one set to be glued onto the poster board above each cup and one set for each student plus extra for visitors, etc. to be stored inside cup as take home for each week. I also tried to print each week’s memory verse in a separate color.
In my Sunday morning Bible class, we have 3rd through 6th graders so I normally have 2 different levels of memory verses to hand out.
I make sure to label each set of memory verses for each particular level.
Directions:
- Cut out each memory verse, poster title, and lesson number and title for each cup and set aside.
- Cut each cup in half from top to bottom.
- Glue the number and title of each week’s lesson onto each half cup.
- Arrange poster title, memory verses, and half cups onto poster board, (see finished poster above) and take a picture of your arrangement so you can refer to it as often as you may need. Before removing the half cups, take a pencil and mark the placement of each cup by marking a dot onto the poster at the top corners of each cup. Remove half cups.
- Glue the poster board title and weekly memory verses into place as you have them arranged.
- Cut and tape 3 tabs to each half cup. (One on each side and one on bottom. See picture #1 below.)
- To mark places to cut poster for tabs to be inserted, place half cup with tabs into place on poster where marked. Turn up each tab next to cup and mark width of each tab with pencil. These are the cutting line for tabs. The closer the mark of the tab to the cup, the less gap there will be in the cup edges so the memory verse papers don’t slip out. (See pictures 2-3 below.)
- Remove half cup from poster. Take X-Acto knife and make cuts on marks for tabs to be inserted. (See picture 4 below.)
- For placement of each half cup under its corresponding memory verse, insert tabs into proper slits in the poster board and pull up slack in each tab on the back of the poster so half cup fits snug against the poster. Tape each tab on back of the poster so it stays put. (See pictures 5-6 below. Picture 7 below, shows back of poster with all tabs on half cups taped.)
- Once the poster is put up in your room with the appropriate verses in each week’s cup, it is ready for use!
- Make students aware that this is a poster that should help them keep track of which memory verses they have and have not learned. If they miss a week, they can easily collect the missed Bible verse.
FYI – You could actually use this poster for more than one quarter! Add clear box tape over each memory verse glued onto the poster and front of each half cup, then add clear sticky Velcro over the permanent labels and attach new labels. This is what I am planning on doing with mine!
I hope you enjoy this Memory Verse Poster!
